What is a Synthetic Lubricant?
Synthetic lubricants are a combination of surfactants, boundary lubricants, and proprietary additives. These additives provide advantages over mineral-based lubricants because they are non-petroleum based, non-toxic, and environmentally friendly. These lubricants have good viscosity to temperature behavior and perform under both high and low temperatures. These products are particularly effective in hard-water and have low foaming characteristics for post washing applications.
Some SpecificTypes of Synthetic Lubricants Include:
• Extreme Duty Synthetic Lubricants contain inhibitors to prevent corrosion on finished materials. They can be diluted with water to cater to heavy-duty or lighter applications. Formulated for use on stainless steel as well as HSLA and AHSS. These metals are subjected to twice the forming energy than traditional mild steels and require a lubricant formulated to accommodate the increased
energy.
• Water-based Synthetic Lubricants versatile lubricants are geared towards steel, aluminum and brass applications. They are clean, environmentally friendly and non-toxic alternatives to traditional chlorinated parrafins.

What are Synthetic Lubricants Best Used For?
If you are forming, stamping, blanking, piercing or roll forming a component or if you will be welding, painting, or cleaning a lubricated part using a synthetic lubricant is the best recommendation. It will allow for the machine to weld through the residual film without smoke and without affecting the porosity or integrity of the weld.
